PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:
Jerry
Schnoor has been a member of the University of Iowa faculty since 1977 and also
held Visiting Professorship at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (EAWAG)
in Zurich, Switzerland. He is
Editor-in-Chief of Environmental Science and Technology
since 2002, member of the EPA Science Advisory Board, and member of the National
Advisory Environmental Health Sciences Council (NIEHS). Previously, Jerry
served as Chair of EPA ORD Board of Scientific Counselors from 2000-2004. He
has testified before Congress several times regarding the 1990 Clean Air Act
Amendments, National Acid Precipitation Assessment, and Upper Mississippi River
Protection Act. Schnoor is a pioneer in phytoremediation, the use of plants to
help clean the environment. He is a registered Professional Engineer and
Diplomate, Board Certified Specialist in General Environmental Engineering. In
1999, he was
elected to the National Academy of Engineering.
Schnoor’s research interests include toxic chemical fate and transport, surface
and groundwater quality modeling, greenhouse gas modeling and mitigation,
phytoremediation, and exposure and risk assessment. Schnoor has edited or
co-edited five books and authored the textbook, Environmental Modeling,
(John Wiley and Sons, 1996), which is used by graduate programs throughout the
world. He is the author of more than 150 articles in peer-reviewed journals,
and is Series Editor (with A.J.Zehnder) of the Wiley Interscience Series of
Texts and Monographs in Environmental Science and Technology.
